Where The Mind Is Without Fear By Rabindranath Tagore

Poem Where The Mind Is Without Fear in English - Lyrics

Where the mind is without fear by rabindranath tagore

Where the mind is without fear!

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habits;
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action;
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake
- Written by Rabindranath Tagore

Where the mind is without fear Summary -

The poet wishes to be awakened to a heaven where the mind can think freely and the soul can be proud, where one can learn in complete freedom of choice, where everyone speaks truthfully from the heart, and where God himself guides us to all deeds, thoughts, and sources of joy. In this poem, Tagore depicts in detail of the kind of country he wants India to be. where knowledge isn't constrained by particular beliefs or allegiances.

In general, Tagore's vision is of a nation where its citizens can be proud of their knowledge and the strength that comes from it, and where prejudice and superstition that narrows the mind and divides people would be a thing of the past.

The poet imagines a flawless world free from fear, injustice, discrimination, and sluggishness. In his utopian vision, everyone has access to information without limitations, there are no lies, everyone strives for excellence, and the slow, lengthy passage of time does not weaken the determination of the populace. He asks God to make his nation such a utopia, free from terror and oppression, with peace and harmony.

The poem is a wonderfully uplifting illustration of what an ideal world might look like. Even if such a paradise may not exist in reality, the poet exhorts people to put forth endless effort and use their imaginations to come as close to it as they can. To describe such a place in such detail, I believe the poet has used a great deal of imagination. It is an universe in which there can be no bad and only good things in life. It is the ideal world that we all strive for, one where there is no tension or anxiety, only growth and harmony. The poet has given us with a standard to aspire towards, and I think we should try to fulfil it.
